Based on the philosophy of 13th century poet, Rumi, this dance opera is a fight between death & birth, climaxing with freedom, revealing the human enigma and the understanding of where we come from and where we are going. Experience the fullness of all your senses as you join La Caravan Dance Theatre in this live, multi-disciplinary collaboration which includes the use of new media and projection mapping technology in addition to poetry, original musical composition, movement, vocal experimentation, costume design and installation art. 7:30 p.m.

The popular Street Piano Series return to Downtown Calgary! Bring some music to your life and enjoy your lunch listening to some great impromptu music. For 2016 The Downtown Calgary Street Pianos return with 3 unique pianos creating a sense of community and adding some music to outdoor spaces. Find them at the following locations:

Symphony of a Thousand: Mahler Eight — 60th Anniversary Season Finale

Friday, June 10 & Saturday, June 11

In the final concert of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra’s 60th anniversary season, the orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus perform Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand. Expect a grand finale concert — this will be one of the largest productions that the CPO has ever staged, with guest soloists, instrumentalists and choral singers. This concert marks the final performance of Maestro Roberto Minczuk as Music Director of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. 8 p.m.

Stephen Avenue Summer Stage

The Stephen Avenue Summer Stage is here again with its exciting entertainment to spice up your day! Drums of the Dragon

Sunday, June 12

The Calgary Wind Symphony welcomes special guests, Calgary’s own Japanese drumming group, Midnight Taiko Kai, to wrap up the 2015/2016 season. Billed as Drums of the Dragon, the program will feature music by John Barnes Chance, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Shin’Ya Takahashi. The drummers join in the wind symphony to present both traditional and contemporary musical styles that are rooted in Asian traditions. 2:30 p.m.

MEC Paddlefest

Sunday, June 12

MEC Paddlefest is a celebration of all things paddling at Chestermere lake. It’s a festival with something for everyone and features informative clinics, kids’ activities, paddling demos, a place to swap your gear, the latest gear and gizmos from paddling retailers and manufacturers, community paddling groups, and gear giveaways! If you love being out on the water and want to learn a thing or two about paddling, MEC’s annual Paddlefest is a must-attend sports and recreation event. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Art Collecting 101

Join the FosterMAK Group of artists for a beautiful show and sale at Fort Calgary! This free event is intended to encourage all lovers of art to come and explore the variety of work our group has to offer at a variety of price points! Select pieces will be sold to benefit the Everett Pottinger Foundation, which supports Alberta families whose children are fighting congenital heart disease.

JazzYYC Summer Festival

Sunday, June 12 – Monday, June 20

Join JazzYYC for the 2nd annual Jazz Fest this June. The lineup of musicians starts on June 16th at the Ironwood Stage and Grill with trumpet player Jens Lindemann’s quartet. This unreal performance will be followed by a series of other shows until June 20th. There will also be a late night series at Lolita’s Lounge on the Friday, Sunday, and Monday so come and get your groove on!
